Melvyn L. Hurwitz is the founder of the firm and limits his practice to representing injured clients before the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board. He has extensive experience and is highly regarded in handling workers’ compensation claims.
About Melvyn L. Hurwitz
Mr. Hurwitz attended Bennett High School, Syracuse University, the University of Buffalo (BA, 1959), and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law (JD, 1962) and was admitted to the bar in 1962. Mr. Hurwitz was in general practice until joining the District Attorney’s Office in 1964 as an Assistant District Attorney. Mr. Hurwitz participated in the prosecution of a number of varied offenses before returning to general practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, criminal defense work, and insurance litigation.
Mr. Hurwitz has been a member of various Bar Associations, including:

- Erie County Bar Association
- Trial Lawyers Association of Erie County
- Workplace Injury Litigation Group
- Injured Workers’ Bar Association
- Injured Workers of New York
- Committee for Workers’ Compensation Reform
Mr. Hurwitz has served on a number of committees for these groups, including acting as Chairman of the ECBA sponsored Workers’ Compensation Committee. Under this same committee, since 1989, Mr. Hurwitz has participated as speaker and instructor in a compensation seminar at SUNY at Buffalo School of Law and has been a past speaker at the sponsored Noon Day Lectures. Additionally, Mr. Hurwitz is a former Regional Director of the Injured Workers Bar Association, which he joined in 1996.
Mr. Hurwitz has also participated in the Lawyer Referral Service, WNY Trial Lawyers Association and the American Arbitration Association, where he enjoyed ratings as an excellent arbitrator. Mr. Hurwitz has also been honored in “Who’s Who in Law” published by Buffalo Business First newspaper.
Mr. Hurwitz is committed to a variety of civic and charitable activities. Mr. Hurwitz is a past coach, manager and vice-president of Amherst’s Hockey Association’s various leagues. He enjoys his free time with his family and friends and enjoys his pets, chess, football, and horse racing. He is an avid collector of model railroad trains with an extensive layout at his home.
